Born in Melbourne and now living on the Victorian Coast, S.D. Hinton worked as an anaesthetic nurse before moving into health education, pathology, private nursing, medical recruitment and resource development. She has travelled extensively and unconventionally, covering as much of the earth’s surface as possible from age eighteen when she hitchhiked around New Zealand, to the sailing the Aegean and writing in a loft apartment in Istanbul. She is the mother of two adult children and writes full time, having overcome a lifetime struggle with dyslexia. She has a strong interest in the human condition, and a love of stories, particularly crime thrillers. S. D. Hinton’s debut novel The Brothers was published to critical acclaim in 2022.
